The 4th Edition of the Northern Ghana Entertainment Awards was on Wednesday, 9th January, 2019 launched in the northern regional capital, Tamale at the Global Dream Hotel.
The annual awards scheme put together by the Celebrities Charity Development Foundation in collaboration with the 2017/2018 Northern Tourism Award winners; Smile Multimedia Agency and Partners, seeks to annually recognize and honor distinguish personalities who are positively contributing positively contributed to the growth of the entertainment industry in Northern Ghana.
 
Addressing stakeholders during the launch, Board Chairman of NEA, Alhassan Abdul Latif said the 4th edition of NEA Ghana is in two folds; NORTHER-GHANA ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS for the ENTERTAINERS and NORTHERN EXCELLENCE AWARDS for other distinguished Individuals and Organizations contributing to the socio-economic development of the north.

He revealed this year’s ceremony will be on the theme; ‘Entertainment for SOCIAL CHANGE: TOURISM and YOUTH DEVELOPMENT’.
Mr. Latif stressed that the Northern Ghana Entertainment Awards is an event that put spotlight on Northern Musicians, Film makers, Sports and Media personalities as well as offer a unique opportunity for them to compete in various categories of the award scheme.
“The NEA since its inception in 2016 has concentrated on honoring persons who have made immense contribution and aided in the steady growth of the entertainment industry, but it is highly imperative to note that, we have decided to add-on a major activity on our event calendar powered by our NGO; the Celebrities Charity Development Foundation with the aim of recognizing other hardworking individuals, brands and organizations outside the entertainment Industry, like entrepreneurs, corporate institutions, politicians, social and humanitarian organizations amongst others who are excelling in their various endeavors through our Northern Excellence a merit award scheme created to celebrate more deserving people. The maiden edition of this will be held here at the Global Dream Hotel on Independence Day, 6thMarch 2019,” the Board Chairman stated.
He added a six (6) member selection committee, a nine (9) Member Board and a fifteen (15) Member Academy with representation across the three regions of the north will consult and nominate persons to be honored in the categories below;
17 Competitive MUSIC Categories + 5 INDUSTRY Categories 4 Competitive Movies and Lifestyle Categories 13 Media Categories 14 MERIT Awards Categories
All major competitive Awardees under the Music, Film, Media and Sports Categories he noted will be determined by 50% Public Votes, 20% NEA Academy and 30% by the NEA Board. However, winners shall be awarded with plaques whiles the Merit Award categories shall be honored with citations.
The Nominees Jam for the 2019 Northern Ghana Entertainment Awards which is slated to take place in the Northern regional capital, Tamale shall partner heavily with the National Youth Authority and other relevant stakeholders to fight against Tramdol and Substance Abuse amongst the youth. Also, the main entertainment awards night ceremony will take place Tamale on Saturday 9th March, 2019.
