David Obeng professionally known as Friyie, is a Canadian music artist, author and entrepreneur of Ghanaian descent. The name Friyie is a short form for the Ashanti name “Afriyie” which means “came at the right time.” Friyie has been pounding the pavement in the Toronto rap scene for years. Born in Canada, Friyie moved to Ghana in his preteens, where culture shock took over. “It was definitely an eye-opening experience,” the 21-year-old artist recalls. “Living in Ghana gave me an entirely different perspective on life.” The music ultimately got in him.
