Newest and hot upcoming sensational Hip Hop artists, Brian Paa Kwesi Mill(English rapper) and Samuel Boadi(Twi rapper) better known by their stage names KWESI JIGGS and ASHES over some months now, have been working sleeplessly regarding the release of their DEBUT ALBUM titled the “UNITED STATES OF AFRICA”. In an interview with KWESI JIGGS who is the C.E.O and founder of Bankshield Unit Recordz, he was able to explain more vividly why he and his artist ASHES decided to collaborate and undertake this project and also explained why they chose such a controversial title for their Debut album. He went further to elaborate on the fact that, “UNITED STATES OF AFRICA” was mentioned first by Marcus Garvey in his poem ‘Hail in 1924 and Garvey’s ideas deeply influenced the birth of the Pan-Africanist movement which culminated in 1945 with the Fifth Pan-African Congress in Manchester, United Kingdom, attended by W. E. B. Du Bois, Patrice Lumumba, George Padmore, Jomo Kenyatta, Dudley Thompson, and Ghana’s first Prime minister and President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. KWESI JIGGS highlighted on the point that, “Dr.Nkrumah and Haile Selassie took the idea forward to form the 37 nation Organisation of African Unity, which was the precursor of the African Union.

However, this concept of a multinational unifying African state was noted in the French publication Le Monde diplomatique as a successor to the medieval African empires which was the Ethiopian Empire, the Ghana Empire, the Mali Empire, the Songhai Empire, the Benin Empire, the Kanem Empire, and many other historic nation states.

KWESI JIGGS talked about the fact that, he and ASHES had one vision in making the dream of “UNITED STATES OF AFRICA” happen through the power of music. The reason being is that, they both believed in the influences and messages that good music could put across and with the concept they had chosen, was serving as an opportunity for them to work with talented artists from various African countries which they had already started off on a pilot base by featuring 2 top south African acts on their debut album on a hit song titled “BURN”.

KWESI JIGGS explained that, he and ASHES loved working with people from other African countries because, it promoted Unity and peaceful co-existence between countries and also created avenue for them to fuse cultures to bring out their creativity. Also, they believed they were  the chosen ones to lift the flag of Africa high by making sure that, this dream happened…. “UNITED STATES OF AFRICA”LP by Kwesi Jiggs & Ashes is officially going to be released on “19.01.13.” and will be available on itunes and other music stores.
